HEAD TO TOE WORK LOOK

Last week's freakish cold spell makes this week’s spring-like temperatures a breath of fresh air.

It's not exactly warm, though, so we must continue to strategically lighten our look without sacrificing comfort. Periodic showers in the forecast make cropped trousers a smart choice for the office. Just be sure to wear sturdy shoes for your commute. These black leather sneakers by Eytys are super cool, and their rubber platform soles stand up quite nicely to showers. Once you reach the office, slip into a pair of easy mule slides. Not only are mules one of the most coveted styles for spring, they also happen to be perfect for work. If this printed jacquard style by Gucci is too loud for your taste, try a more paired-down version like these or these by Robert Clergerie. Instead of a plain white blouse, try one with an interesting detail like C/MEO Collective’s waist-tie shirt. A structured bag in a neutral hue (double points for a top-handle/shoulder strap hybrid) is the perfect way to polish this look. Of course, you’ll need a long-line overcoat for warmth and protection from the periodic showers.

HEAD TO TOE CASUAL LOOK

Spring, where you at? It’s mid-April already.

To get us through this week's unpredictable, at times nasty weather, we swear by the layering technique. Start with a piece like RTA’s Scarlet pullover sweatshirt. It's both cozy and cool, plus its contrast underlay gives the illusion that you're wearing a well-styled shirt underneath. Pair with skinny jeans like this pair by Citizens of Humanity which just so happen to be one of the most flattering jeans on the market now. Finish the look off with these monk-strap brogues by Acne. They add a welcome pop of color and are a nice break from sneakers (though you may want to sport those sneakers on the rainiest days). Our favorite piece for the week is this hybrid trench from Topshop. The khaki hoodie sweatshirt adds a cool military spin.

Bomber jackets. Plaid. “The People v. O.J. Simpson” series. It’s official: The ’90’s are back.

The retro trend we're digging the most? The choker necklace. It’s just so darn rad. When we spotted this gorgeous Tahitian pearl and leather style on the neck of an insanely fashionable friend who owns a jewelry showroom, we were totally sold. Designer Sara Weinberger, founder of Kala Designs, makes the coolest choker necklaces from the finest leather and Tahitian pearls. Our friend was wearing it with leather pants, a sweatshirt, and sneakers. Another fashion editor was spotted wearing it with a plaid button down shirt and skinny jeans. Finally, a leather choker lady-like enough to wear to work.
