HEAD TO TOE JET SET

Layers are necessary for air travel, as temperatures in airports and airplanes tend to fluctuate to extremes.

No matter where in the world you’re traveling, there’s no excuse for looking like an “ugly American” on the plane. A maxi dress provides style and coverage. Bare legs on an airplane are just plain icky. Though this Raquel Allegra style is sleeveless, a leather jacket or fitted blazer will pair perfectly and provide warmth in the overly air-conditioned cabin. Just remove the jacket when you reach your balmy destination. An oversized, cashmere or light wool scarf is a great carry-on, as it can be worn around the neck or used as a blanket (a much cleaner alternative to the never-been-washed airline blankets). Classic ballet flats are a great option for travel, as they’re easy to walk in through the airport and will keep your feet reasonably warm. Should you wish to change to a more skin-baring shoe upon arrival, stash a pair of sandals in your carry-on bag. A large leather tote with a shoulder strap looks great and will house all your necessities for the flight, including oversized shades to hide any flight-induced, under-eye circles.

HEAD TO TOE TRAIN LOOK

Hamptons-bound travellers who take the train know that the perfect travel outfit is a balancing act: you want comfort, style, and practicality

Especially, since you might be standing the whole way. Not to mention, the train is always freezing, and you'll be schlepping a weekend bag.
So, it's best to err on the side of caution. Opt for multitasking accessories and inject some trendiness into your look with trousers like this pair from Alice + Olivia. The cropped twill pants are ideal for sitting on the stairs (you won't rub your bum on anything gross), standing (no peep shows), or, should you be so lucky to get one, sitting in an uncomfortable seat (your thighs won't rub up on it). Let the fuss-free cropped pants be the focal point, and counter their slouchy fit with a tucked-in, fitted tank top. We've been loving this tank by Christina Lehr. You'll want to avoid exposing your feet, so opt for flats that will also look good with the shorts that you packed. Try a leather pair in black because you won’t have to worry about them getting filthy. For a nighttime look, just swap the shoes for heels.  A classic L.L. Bean boat zip-top bag with long straps is ideal to stuff your computer inside and is a slim, lightweight suitcase to hold your weekend essentials. Since the train is usually cold, have a beach blanket like this one by Steven Alan on hand to wrap around your shoulders. It'll also remind you of the beautiful beach destination at the end of the nightmarish train ride you're braving.

HEAD TO TOE ROAD TRIP

Comfy, wrinkle-resistant pieces are key for long car rides.

Whether you’re driving to Kennebunkport, the Berkshires or the Cape, you’ll want to wear a comfortable travel outfit that is chic enough to be seen in upon arrival. No one likes the feeling of legs sticking to car seat upholstery. We recommend a pair of solid-colored jersey trackies. A basic tank with an asymmetrical hem detail is a perfect, non-fussy accompaniment. These sleek, minimalist sandals look great and can be worn with a sundress, jeans, or beach cover-up. A large, slouchy shoulder bag will contain all your must-haves for the car ride (Shiseido Sun Protection compact for you; Cheerios for the kiddos). As for accessories, an amazing woven choker with metallic accents and a pair of stylish sunnies are more than enough adornment.
