IF YOU COULD BUY JUST TWO PIECES

August is all about being outdoors and entertaining alfresco whenever possible. Sitting on the grass or laying on the sand, however, isn't too comfortable—no matter how idyllic you might have imagined it to be. While investing in an outdoor blanket this late in the season might seem hard to justify, Steven Alan's version has such a perfect Parisian boho-chic look that you'll want to continue using it come fall as an indoor throw. Made of lightweight, super-soft cotton, each blanket measures 60" by 84". Easy to carry and machine washable, it's perfect for the beach or park, and the cool palette of colored stripes goes with just about any exterior or interior.

Who isn't a sucker for a genius accessory? This flask bangle by Cynthia Rowley is an example of a statement piece that is also useful. While it’s been out for some time, it’s backordered until mid-September! Regardless, we still love the idea of buying it right now. Aside from being stylish, it’s a great conversation piece as well as being an actual flask.  You could, of course, always give it as a thank you gift to that friend who hosted you this summer (or just keep if for yourself). Either way, we think it’s just the accessory to have on hand to seamlessly transition your wardrobe into fall.

HEAD TO TOE CASUAL LOOK

Transition into fall with thoughtful late-summer purchases.

This look is created around this pair of amazing calf hair slip-on sneakers. Not only are they totally on-trend (love you, Céline), but they’re a perfect transitional shoe that can be worn now into the fall. We adore this version by Gap, which is stylish and well priced. Distressed boyfriend jeans are another great wardrobe investment; the look is still going strong. This style by J Brand has the perfect cut (not too baggy) and faded color. They’ll look great down the line with black ankle boots and a leather jacket. For now, a striped tee is the perfect pairing (extra points if you wear it half-tucked!). For this week’s chilly mornings and evenings, be sure to tote along an oversized boyfriend blazer. It pulls together the casual elements of the look (i.e. sneakers and ripped jeans). Our rule of thumb is to always counter balance trashed jeans with at least one elegant piece, be it Chanel ballet flats, heels, a structured bag or a chic jacket.
