HEAD TO TOE CASUAL LOOK

This weather is bipolar. It’s freezing one day, then pleasant the next. The best way to cope with these temp swings? Layering.

One fail-safe piece to achieve seamless layering is the bodysuit (yep, they’re back!). When worn right they're surprisingly chic and can really pull a look together. This solid black one by Wolford is a far cry from the Betsy Johnson versions of our youth. With the forecast predicting another week filled with rain, your best bet is to pair one with twisted, cropped, slim-legged jeans. Layer with a cool cardigan sweater like this one from Marc Jacobs or opt for a cozier, longer style. Finish the look off with booties and a bomber style coat.

HEAD TO TOE GOING OUT

Let’s face it: Johnny Cash––aka the “Man in Black”––had it right.

You can (almost) never go wrong with an all-black ensemble. Keep the look fresh with chic separates in modern silhouettes. These slightly cropped black flares by Acne Studios are the perfect addition to your existing wardrobe. Plus, they’re pretty season-less and can be worn throughout the year with different pairings from sandals and a T-shirt, to boots and sweaters. For a night out, wear with a black asymmetric top. We love this one-shoulder version by Roland Mouret, which will transition nicely into spring. Stick with a streamlined, sock-fit ankle boot. Try the one-earring trend with an oversized, gold statement piece that complements the asymmetry of the top. Go for a smoke-y, almost lacquered eye. We love Chantecaille eye shadow duo in Piazza San Marco. Apply with a damp brush for a liquid-metal finish.

IF YOU COULD ONLY BUY JUST ONE PIECE

Year after year, military styles always seem to find their way back onto the catwalk. For spring, it’s all about the army shirt and lightweight coat. While we usually don't focus on untimely trends, we think this style is totally doable right now and ideal for layering. Opt for a tailored style to layer over a thin sweater or long-sleeve T-shirt, and under your overcoat. Pair with bell-bottomed jeans or leather leggings. Or try one in place of blazer with a suit. Below are our favorite army styles:
