HEAD TO TOE CASUAL LOOK

After last week’s bout of frigid arctic air, temperatures in the 40s are a welcome relief.

While 46 degrees may feel like summer compared to -9, it’s still not time to retire our warm layers. We built our look around this cool pair of burgundy New Balance sneakers. Perfect for running around town, they add instant pizazz to a basic outfit.  The trick to wearing sneakers stylishly is to keep the rest of the look casual, but sharp. The outfit should still work if you were to substitute the kicks with smoking slippers or chic loafers. These slim, subtly cropped trousers by J. Crew are perfect for showing off the shoes. They also counter-balance the voluminous upper layers. We love this dolman-sleeved, metallic sweatshirt by Alexander Wang, but this style by Margaux Lonnberg is similar and more affordable. We like layering a chambray shirt under the sweatshirt so that the tails and collar peak out from underneath. We can’t get enough of the fluffy “teddy” coats this season. It’s a fun, unexpected addition to an outfit comprised of basics. Don’t bother investing in an expensive version, there’s so many affordable style out there like this piece by Topshop.

HEAD TO TOE DAY-NIGHT

Good morning! No more arctic temps this week.

A lightweight, knitted mini dress is perfect for welcoming back a more typical seasonal forecast. Leave it to Alexander Wang to create the ideal style with its not-too-heavy fabric, universally flattering shade of grey and cool, asymmetric hemline. We love how it looks layered over a white button down top (a sleeveless version works, as well) and paired with black tights.  This effortlessly cool look works for both day and night. Though you could go with almost any style shoe, we personally love the idea of pairing the look with embellished boots such as these by Toga (perfect for wearing right now into spring). If you don’t want to ruin your shoes in the slush, the booties pictured are such a find and more durable. Finish the look off with a red lip and cool rings. And don’t forget the sunglasses!

IF YOU COULD ONLY BUY ONE PIECE

This tote by Mansur Gavriel is just the bag to get you through winter. Made from 100% Italian leather, the vividly colored inner lining is resin coated to help protect it from wear and tear. We love the simple silhouette and lack of flashy hardware and logos. There's also a detachable shoulder strap option. Plus, the leather looks even cooler with age and wear. The cognac and blue combination is striking, but all the color combinations are gorgeous.
