GUEST EDITOR LAURA WASS

Having launched in Fall/Winter 2012, Brooklyn-based WXYZ Jewelry’s designs have a downtown, industrial-inspired vibe—a bold departure from the girly designs flooding the market today. Its founder and designer, Laura Wass, sat down with us to discuss some of her favorite pieces from the collection, and what current fashion look she’s channeling right now.

LAURA’S MUST-HAVE PIECES

“For its inaugural season, WXYZ is inspired by both the organic and manmade structures that create our world, and accordingly is produced by combining handmade and industrial methods,” explains Wass. She continues, “WXYZ synthesizes universal elements, calling upon biology, geometry, and the machine to inform a modular design.” What are her two can’t-live-without pieces from the collection? “The Bubble Bracelet and the JAX Master necklace, for sure.”

"I think that the biggest jewelry trend this season is functional comfort, substance, and playfulness.  I think this is applicable for the 2 ‘must-have’ WXYZ pieces – there is something irresistibly tactile about them.  For both the wearer and onlooker, it is impossible to resist touching and playing, yet they are staple pieces that can be incorporated into outfits from day to night, from the city to the beach."

HEAD TO TOE BEACH LOOK

All the essentials for a day of fun in the sun.

“The concept behind the outfit is the lunch-hour escape to the closest park—simulating a beach jaunt with friends, or even playing hooky to the Rockaways for the afternoon!  Throw all of the lawn/sand essentials into a cute backpack, and you’re ready to go.”
