FRAGMENTS ON JEWELRY TRENDS FOR SUMMER

The warmer weather means you'll be wearing less layers, so it's the perfect time to add some color to your wardrobe with jewelry. Since fine jewelry is an investment, you want to choose pieces that are timeless yet updated enough to reflect current fashion trends. Rachel Baritz of Fragments, the SoHo boutique famous for their sophisticated-yet-edgy jewelry selections, gave us her tips for spring trends, personal favorites, and advice on how to wear them.

If you could buy just one piece of jewelry right now, what would it be and why?

Easy.  The Kismet bar necklace in rose gold.  It’s the perfect delicate necklace for every day, and it’s ideal for layering.

What are some big trends in jewelry that we will be seeing this spring and summer?

The statement earring never goes away, and it’s the perfect item to take you from day to night in the summer.  My favorites are from Miguel Ases—they’re a lot of look for a decent price, and they’re so lightweight.  Also, look for lots of blues, greens, and all shades of pastels.

Are there any styles that we should put into storage from seasons past?

Neon is taking a bit of a hiatus, but for the most part, jewelry is personal.  It’s less about the trend of the moment and more about what looks and feels good to you.

What's the one piece every woman should have in her jewelry wardrobe?

Hoops—all sizes, shapes, and colors.  Some of my favorites are blue sapphire from Nam Cho and blackened gold with white diamonds from Sethi Couture.

Are there any hard and fast rules for wearing/layering multiple pieces, styles of jewelry?

More is more.  There are no rules—the more you mix it up, the better it looks!

What are some chic pieces to wear for all the weddings we have to go to this summer?

Cocktail rings and chandelier earrings add instant glamour to any party dress.  Whether it’s fashion or fine, Fragments has options for everyone at every price point.

Any pro tips on how to care for our jewelry?

It’s jewelry—it’s girly and delicate and not indestructible!  Don’t shower in it and don’t sleep in it.  Be nice to it if you want it to last.  Keep your jewels in separate pouches or boxes so they don’t get all tangled and scratched.
