HEAD TO TOE CARDIO

Fashionable gym clothes make working out much more fun.

Whether you’re a runner, Queen of the Elliptical or a fan of the Prancercise craze (just YouTube it!) , streamlined pieces in high-tech fabrics are the way to go. Start with a pair of lightweight, woven shorts in a fun, pop-of-color print. The fabric of this ‘Heat Gear’ style by Under Armour is designed to function optimally in temperatures up to 75 degrees. This is perfect since thundershowers in this week’s forecast may lead to indoor workouts. A simple, black tank by Nike (with Dri-FIT technology) will go with most everything in your exercise wardrobe and looks cool layered over a bright statement sports bra (NB: The Nike Pro bra pictured works best for smaller cup sizes). Sneakers are probably the most important element of your workout gear. We’ve been running in our Asics GEL-Kayanos for years, and each edition only gets better. While we’d never advise choosing a shoe solely upon its colors, it doesn’t hurt that the Kayano 19 comes in a few awesome combinations. A sporty watch like this oversized black style by Michael Kors is durable and chic—perfect for both in and out of the gym. If you find yourself exercising outdoors, don’t forget a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun. Keep hydrated with a self-filtering water bottle like the Bobble.

HEAD TO TOE SPIN CLASS

Spin class = a fashion show on stationary bikes.

We’re new to spinning, but one thing is clear: what you wear matters. Pattern, color and cool flourishes are king. Mix things up with a pair of bright patterned, capri-length leggings (we find pants to be more comfortable and sweat-absorbing than shorts on a bike). This pair by PrismSport has a Missoni-esque look we love. When going wild on the bottom half, opt for a paired down, loose-fitting tank like this stylish version by Stella McCartney for Adidas. Let a sports bra with panache peak through. We love this cutout, V-neck style by Solow. Bright kicks are a must for your walk to and from the studio. Of course, while you’re there, you’ll be sporting cycling shoes (on the bright side, they’re much cooler than bowling shoes). Make sure to sport sweat-wicking socks like this pair with Tactel nylon by Lululemon. For you competitive types, try Polar’s heart rate monitoring watch, which looks sleek and tells you exactly how many calories you’re actually burning. Don’t forget a light jacket for early morning or evening workouts when it’s cooler.

HEAD TO TOE PILATES & YOGA

Pilates and yoga require focusing on the moment, so you want gear that looks and feels great.

Our favorite piece right now has been Lululemon’s No Limits Tank; it’s a bra and loose fitting top in one that won’t stretch out. Not to mention, you can just throw it on and pair with everything from cropped leggings to more fashion-y pants like Lole’s Lotus Capri. The look can transition from mat class to your little one’s music class, seamlessly. If you're accident or sweat prone, try a pair of socks with slip resistant grippers on the sole. With the possibility of t-storms early in the week, you’ll want to have a cool bag (boho-inspired!) to stuff a lightweight coat inside. We love how worn-in leather flip-flops complete this look. With such stylish workout pieces, you may just motivate to make that yoga class after work.
