HEAD TO TOE

CASUAL LOOK

This could be the ultimate fall brunch look.

A cozy sweater, skinny pants, flat ankle boots and a floppy fedora create a perfect off-duty look for this week’s weather. We love the styled-yet-nonchalant vibe of the ensemble—very chic French girl. What makes this simple look so appealing? Let’s start with the sweater. The modern, voluminous cut of the sleeves and the fluffy angora make this Acne Studios top a step up from the average sweater. While jeans would be a cute pairing, olive moto-style skinnies are more unexpected and add interest. We love the cool buckle detailing on these See by Chloé flat-heeled, brown suede ankle boots. It’s a little bit of a change from the more ubiquitous equestrian boot or heeled booties (not that we don’t love those, too!) that are so popular. A floppy fedora is a great hat choice for fall. They’re easier to wear than stiff-brimmed fedoras and less costume-y than wide-brimmed ‘70s-style toppers. Plus, a hat will come in handy for this week’s possible showers.  We also love this cute, less expensive version. Finally, we love the idea of substituting a shoulder bag with a large patterned clutch carried under the arm for daytime.

HEAD TO TOE

DAY-NIGHT

If the return of the ‘90s heralds one thing, it's the resurgence of longer skirts.

This week, the weather is cold, but not yet frigid. So, wear a long skirt paired with merino wool stockings underneath. To avoid looking frumpy, opt for a maxi skirt that is fitted with a bit of flow (your skirt should never impede your stride). This style from Yumi Kim, for example, features a front slit that makes it easy to wear. The maxi skirt looks best worn higher on the waist. For a flattering look, try wearing a tucked-in top, like this Theory tank. We'd style it by then layering a cropped sweater so that the under layer peaks out. You can wear this look with either flat boots or high-heeled booties  or high boots. Finish off the look with minimalist accessories, and your most important item: a warm coat. Try for a fitted coat to keep the look streamlined. And don’t forget a great hat.
