HEAD TO TOE GETTING THERE

Like many New Yorkers traveling this Thanksgiving holiday, you want to pack light, be comfortable, and look presentable upon arrival.

Incorporate your most treasured items and bulky pieces into your travel day outfit. This will keep your luggage light and, if you're flying, will ensure nothing meaningful gets lost or misplaced by baggage handlers.

For us, that means wearing our leather jacket and chunky sweater en route, as well as our good luck necklace. We also like carrying on a large travel bag big enough to hold a smaller handbag and our MacBook Air. Start with a basic canvas of jeans (that can be easily dressed up or down) with a long comfortable top like this one by Enza Costa underneath the sweater. Slip-on shoes aren’t always the easiest for traveling in a busy airport—especially if you’re running to catch a flight. Best to stick with Converse since they're easy to walk in and will keep you warmer on the frigid airplane. Top it all off with a scarf that can double as a blanket. And don't forget to wear cool socks to get you through those security lines in style without the ick-factor of walking in bare feet.

HEAD TO TOE CASUAL DINNER

Wearing jeans in a lighter denim wash adds an element of cool to an otherwise casual look perfect for Thanksgiving dinner at home.

When paired with a dark blazer, light colored jeans become more winterized and a touch dressier.  Layer a long, loose-fitting T-shirt underneath the jacket because you'll most likely be unbuttoning your jeans after stuffing your face! Wear with comfortable yet chic ankle boots like this low-heeled, Western-inspired black suede pair. To add some polish, throw on an understated but eye-catching necklace. We love how this eclectic horn pendant sits nestled between the wrap of delicate chain links.

HEAD TO TOE DRESSY DINNER

A blouse-and-trousers ensemble is perfect for looking polished and festive, while still feeling comfortable.

Some gather ‘round the Thanksgiving table wearing football jerseys and sweatpants. This year, however, you'll be required to "dress for dinner.” How to look the part without sacrificing comfort? The Solution: Wear a silky blouse paired with trousers that have a standout detail. We love this black-and-white pair by Vince. One-part tuxedo trouser, one-part track pant, they look chic and pulled-together without trying too hard. A white blouse with tuxedo detail, like this version by Theory, complements the sleek trousers, while the silky fabric adds a feminine vibe. The open neckline is the perfect showcase for a statement necklace such as this art-deco-inspired collar by Ranjana Khan, but this more wallet-friendly piece has similar impact.  For extra warmth or to infuse a pop-of-color to an otherwise black-and-white ensemble, add a bright cobalt blazer. Basic black or white pumps and a clutch are the perfect accessories, as they won’t compete with the major jewelry around your neck.
